All electronic equipment, even the iPhone sometimes loses smoothness of work or completely refuses to obey. Few people realize that most problems can be solved by themselves without visiting Apple Service. Defects such as phone hangs, the iPhone does not respond to touch, or the iPhone will not turn on can be resolved by reset. There are types of restets. Traditional reset using commands (soft reset) and so-called hard reset – if the phone does not respond completely.
How to reset your iPhone
The easiest way to deal with the iOS system problem is to turn off the phone. Don’t know how to reset iPhone? Due to the design of the iPhone, you can not remove the battery yourself. Below, you’ll find some tips on how to reset your phone.
What is soft reset?
Soft reset should hold the Sleep / Wake button, which is located at the top, until the inscription “slide to power off” appears, which must then be moved to the right. Then turn on the phone by pressing the same button.

What is hard reset?
Hard Reset is tantamount to turning the phone’s power off completely. In other words, a hard reset of an iPhone is similar to removing the battery. Performing a hard iPhone reset helps to solve problems caused by iOS errors. Importantly, performing a hard reset does not restore the iPhone to the factory settings or reset the iPhone. Depending on your device version, there are several instructions on how to reset the iPhone.
- iPhone 8 and newer models. Press the Volume Up button (left side edge), then the same Volume Down and then hold Sleep / Wake (right side edge). Then hold the Sleep / Wake buttons until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears and put the phone down so it can reset.
- iPhone 7 and 7 plus. Press the Sleep / Wake button and the Volume Down Button simultaneously. Then hold the buttons until the Apple logo appears and wait a moment. Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears and wait for the device to reset.
- Older models. Press the Sleep / Wake button and the Home Button at the same time (under the screen). Hold the buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears and let the device reset.
If, despite performing a hard reset, your iPhone still troubles problems, you shouldn’t go to Apple’s website with him.
Faulting factory settings
If you want to restore the iPhone to the default settings, e.g. before selling it or handing it over, you have three options.
First option: you need to go to Settings, then General and Reset – here you choose what exactly you want to get rid of (this solution may not be fully effective).
Second option: Connect iPhone with computer via cable, then run iTunes and select “Play iPhone” – this will ensure permanent deletion of data and system
Third option: turn off the iPhone, and then press Sleep / Wake and Home at the same time (just like in a normal reset, but this time you need to press until the message “Connect to iTunes” appears).
